This is the time of year for us to reflect on who Jesus really is in our lives. Sino nga ba ang ating Mesiyas na isinilang sa mundo sa araw ng Pasko?

I have learned that hope gives birth to courage, and courage leads to creativity; and that creativity opens the door for the fruits of the spirit to dwell within. But one may ask, ‘What comes before hope?’ I believe it is trust. Before trust comes gratitude.

During these difficult times of natural and man-made calamities, and the current coronavirus pandemic, we may find ourselves asking, “To what or to whom do we hang-on to? Cling to? What keeps us moving?”

We need to care not only because caring is our birth right, or because we are driven by our natural desire for sustenance and life. We must care not only for our love of nature’s beauty nor for our hope of an abundant life. We simply must care just as our Creator and Father cares.

In this Advent and Christmas seasons, I reflect upon our present realities. “Will there still be Joy?” My answer is YES.

In this episode of "Meet a Columban", Columban Fr Jim Mulroney speaks with Columban Fr Vincent Busch who has been a missionary in the Philippines since 1974. He currently works with the Subanen people of Mindanao, Philippines.

Perhaps that was the scenario when the lepers were asking Jesus to heal them. They must have been in pain, crying for help like her. And perhaps the only free medication for them is to turn to Jesus with faith.

As the weeks and months passed by, I found myself asking the universe when I can see my husband and daughter, and hug my twin boys again. It was a painfully sad time.

"It is hard to imagine how my life would be without the missionaries who came into the country. I am grateful because I am now harvesting the fruits of their labor. "

A prayer service was attended by the Columban Missionaries – priests, lay and students – in the Philippines, Myanmar and Ireland.

I often think of the image of the compassionate God who never abandons His people, and as a missionary I continue to live out and be a witness to His compassion.

The Philippines, an archipelagic country composed of 7,600 islands, breeds diversity in culture, language, tradition, and customs. Inevitably, such diversity could sometimes lead to misunderstandings, form a regionalism perspective, and disunity.

In our quest for building one Christ-centered learning community, we need to consider the generational difference among us youth. There are other factors that challenge our Christ-centered youth ministry from flourishing.

It was during my stay with Nanay Andring’s family that I became fluent with the Visayan language and learned more about the Filipino culture.

As we celebrate 500 years of Christianity, I pray that every parent will be aware of their responsibility to do what they can so that their children become more responsible and mature Christians.
