Water for Our Journey
Water for Our Journey
We, Subanens, are an indigenous people of Mindanao. Our artists crafted this card which shows Mary and Joseph getting water for their journey to Egypt. Over many years we have lost much of our forested homeland to new settlers and to logging operations. Without our forest our rivers go dry and we lose our water supply. Like Joseph and Mary, we hope to provide our families with a steady water supply for our life’s journey. That hope will die if we lose our forest and watershed.
Mary and Joseph carefully filled their Water bag before fleeing to Egypt. We pray to the Holy family to help us care for our endangered water sources and watersheds.
(Note: Artwork is designed by Fr. Vincent Busch, Columban priest, and handcrafted by the Subanen people)
Sales of our cards help us replant our ancestral land and provide a healthy habitat for our children.
The Columban Missionaries have worked with the Subanen people for 50 years.
